Hotel Room Security

I travel a lot and I have only been once and it's torn because I do not use my own advice. On the cheap hotels in Asia, many hotels and inns have been posted that you need to check your valuables at the front desk, but if you do some research on it, many do not have a safe. I personally think that using the front desk to mark you as someone who has a lot to lose, and makes you a potential target. One place that I live in you should give the envelope and put it on that and it's security, Think not!
So if you stay in cheap hotels, guesthouses or apartments there are a few things real easy and inexpensive things you can do to protect themselves from losses on the road. The biggest thing, remember to pack is your brain, think about your security, and think about it before you go on the road.

Bring a small lock. They just need to be strong enough that they'll cause some damage when removed; this will keep the honest servant. If you have a weight allowance to bring the motor cable and lock, you can do many things with such a combination of cabinets and drawers you can lock them and give yourself the space for things like camera bags, smart phones and other expensive electronics. Otherwise you can lock your bag or briefcase, and then lock it into a large furniture.
I do not recommend hiding money in the room, but sometimes that will be your best choice. Higher is better than the machine is low and inside is a place that most people would not usually go in a cursory search. I have hidden items on the fans before, as well as air conditioning and under the TV.
Something that can bring with you who do not take up space or weight, and cost almost nothing, is that the electricity used zip ties. Several airlines in Asia are now handing out zip ties when you check your bags, an idea is to use that to lock your bag and then recording those extras for airport security to reclose after they search your bag, that if you are heading to the United States was given today.

In some poor countries I have seen it where they reach into the room with a long stick and pull the handbags and clothing from the window so make sure that windows are closed and that you have valuables so that they can not be seen from the window. I saw one time where they create a diversion and then reached into the room during the daytime with the occupants of space 10 yards!
